2 doctors of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical college have been charged with sexual misconduct by 7 women who were working as staff in the hospital. They have claimed that they were inappropriately touched by the doctors.
The victims submitted a written complaint to the Minister of Medical Education and Skill Development DR Sharanaprakash Rudrappa Patil. Medical Superintendent Dr Kemparaju and Patient Relations Officer Dr Shrikanth have been accused of misconduct. “We are writing from the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital now known as the Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Centre located in the Shivajinagar region of Bengaluru. We want to bring to your notice that Medical Superintendent Dr Kemperaju and Patient Relations Officer Dr Shrikanth have behaved inappropriately with women doctors, caregivers and medical staff. They do not have conversations with women without physically touching us. We are unable to confront them. Certain employees who are working on a contract basis are not in a position to complain against them. They have political backing and influence among government officers,” the letter mentioned.
An investigation committee has been instituted by the Directorate of Medical Council to examine the allegations. The Director of Medical Education Sujatha Rathod will lead the committee. The Dean of the Bengaluru Medical College and other members will also be part of the committee.
