The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is considering a 10-15% hike in metro fares, marking the first revision since 2017. The Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) is expected to submit its recommendations to the government in the coming days. The move could make Namma Metro travel more expensive for commuters.

Currently, metro fares range from ₹10 to ₹60, with a 5% discount available for smartcard users. The FFC had earlier sought public input on the proposed fare hike as part of its review process.
A three-member panel, chaired by retired Madras High Court judge Justice R. Tharani, is leading the review. Other members include Satyendra Pal Singh, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and E.V. Ramana Reddy, former Additional Chief Secretary of Karnataka. The committee has examined fare structures in other Indian and international metro systems to ensure a balanced approach.
Bengaluru’s metro network spans 76 kilometers, making it the second-largest in India after Delhi. The metro has seen a significant rise in ridership since 2017, particularly on the Purple Line, which serves the city’s IT hub. Peak hours often witness overcrowding, leading to calls for more trains to meet demand.
The upcoming fare revision aims to balance operational costs with affordability for commuters while addressing the growing demand for improved services.
