Purpose of visit was to oversee delivery of Namma Metro coaches
Officials inspected the coaches and facilitated their transit to India
In 2019, a contract worth ₹1,578 crore was secured by a Chinese firm to supply 216 metro coaches to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.
Recently, a group of senior Bengaluru Metro officials traveled to the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) factory in China.
The purpose of their visit was to oversee the delivery of Namma Metro coaches, which the BMRCL plans to utilize on the recently opened K.R. Pura to Whitefield metro line and the upcoming Yellow Line, set to commence operations soon.
The CRRC is set to deliver two sets of six-coach trains within this year, with the remaining coaches scheduled for phased delivery to BMRCL. The officials have journeyed to China with the objective of inspecting the coaches and facilitating their transit to India.
In the past, BMRCL had issued several notices to the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, even contemplating the encashment of its ₹372 crore bank guarantee.
Presently, the Chinese company has collaborated with Kolkata-based Titagarh Wagons to ensure the delivery of the remaining coaches. CRRC has inked an MoU with an Indian company for the purpose of coach manufacturing. BMRCL eagerly awaits the arrival of these coaches, which will operate on the R.V. Road – Bommasandra line.
The 19-km elevated Yellow Line of Namma Metro, the R.V. Road – Bommasandra line, is expected to begin operations in the near future. This development is anticipated to greatly benefit a large number of individuals employed in Electronics City, among others.
