Following an inspection of key roads and infrastructure recently, Shivakumar revealed that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will collaborate to introduce advertisement billboards on Metro pillars as a revenue-generating measure.
Under the new plan, BBMP will issue tenders for advertising, while BMRCL will allocate space on Metro pillars. The revenue generated will be shared between both agencies, with a portion dedicated to the beautification of these structures.
BBMP officials believe that illuminating the city’s infrastructure will improve safety, enhance visibility, and elevate Bengaluru’s nightlife. Additionally, officials clarified that since Metro pillars are on BBMP-owned land, the revenue from advertisements will be shared accordingly.
This initiative is expected to not only create a visually appealing urban landscape but also provide a steady income stream for the city’s development projects.
