Bengaluru’s long-awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro is now set to begin operations between mid and late January 2025, following extended delays. Stretching 19.15 kilometers, this line will connect RV Road with Bommasandra, passing through high-demand areas like BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City. This route is expected to serve a large commuter base, especially those working in the bustling IT hubs.

Although construction for the Yellow Line was completed months ago, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has been unable to commence service due to limited train availability. Currently, BMRCL has only one prototype train that arrived from China in February 2023. This train has been used in trial runs along the line and has successfully passed safety and performance checks by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), according to a senior BMRCL official.
BMRCL anticipates launching services by January, assuming additional trains arrive on schedule. Once operational, the Yellow Line is expected to significantly alleviate road congestion, particularly in areas around Electronics City, where many tech companies are based. With direct connectivity from residential to commercial areas, the line aims to streamline daily travel for Bengaluru’s workforce.
The Yellow Line will be a crucial addition to the metro network, expected to reduce commute times and improve transit options across the city’s southern corridor.
