Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line is set to receive its first driverless train set from Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) by January 2025, after missing the initial August 2024 deadline. The 18.82-km corridor, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City, aims to boost connectivity between south Bengaluru and the city’s IT hub.

Prithish Chowdhary, Deputy Managing Director at TRSL, reportedly confirmed the first train set’s manufacturing is nearly complete. TRSL aims to dispatch the train by late December or early January 2025, highlighting rigorous testing underway to meet stringent quality standards. The trains, built locally under a Make-in-India initiative, mark a milestone as Titagarh’s first localized stainless-steel trainset for the Bengaluru Metro project.
TRSL plans to scale production to two train sets per month after delivering the first. However, operational readiness of the Yellow Line in January 2025 is uncertain. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) initially expected operations with three trains by late January but revised estimates hinge on timely deliveries.
Of the 36 train sets required, Titagarh will manufacture 34 domestically, while two sets, built in China, were delivered earlier this year. The project, part of Bengaluru Metro Phase II, is valued at ₹5,744 crore and aims to alleviate congestion at Silk Board Junction and along Hosur Road.
