By stepping on a stray live wire on the road, a mother and her 9-month-old daughter died on the spot in the Hope Farm junction in Whitefield’s Kadugodi at 5AM on November 19th. This is a case of negligence from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM).
23-year-old Soundarya hails from the Cuddalore district in the state of Tamil Nadu. Her 9-month-old daughter was named Leah. They were residing in the AKG Colony within the limits of the Kadugodi police station. Soundarya was enroute her mother’s house when tragedy ensued. The stray wire had fallen onto the road.
Passersby brought the incident to the notice of the Kadugodi police who have registered a case and are looking into all aspects of the case. Shivakumar Gunare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Whitefield division, intimated that three BESCOM workers have been detained and are being interrogated in relation to this incident. Member of Parliament from Bengaluru Central belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party, PC Mohan expressed his grief over this tragedy through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). “The electrocution at Hope Farm Junction, where a young woman lost her life, is heartbreaking and highlights the urgency for BESCOM to adopt preventive measures. A heightened sense of responsibility from BESCOM is crucial in averting such incidents and ensuring a safer environment,” he said.
