  • BBMP had served a notice to Signpost, the company that had installed the bus shelter
  • BBMP officials removed the bus shelter upon not receiving a response to the notice
  • Police have flagged the complaint to be misleading

Commissioner of police, Bengaluru, B. Dayanada has offered an update regarding the status of the case that was filed on the bus shelter that had gone missing within a week of its installation from Cunningham road. The BBMP had served a notice to Signpost, a commercial company that was entasked with the construction of this Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus shelter over concerns that it might be unsafe for the users. The notice had questions regarding the material used, its specifications and the rationale for its usage. On 25th September, upon not having received a response to the notice, the BBMP ensured that the bus shelter was removed.

N Ravi Reddy, associate vice-president of Signpost had earlier filed a complaint with the High Grounds police regarding the alleged theft on September 30th. The complaint stated, “We undertake the work of constructing bus shelters in the city for BBMP. Accordingly, we had constructed this particular bus shelter (close to Coffee Day) on Cunningham Road on August 21. It was a stainless-steel structure. The cost of the shelter was Rs 10 lakh. However, on visiting the shelter on August 28, we found it missing. We enquired with BBMP officials and asked them whether they have any information on the removal of the shelter and they said no. Finally, we decided to lodge a police complaint.” The police have now characterised the complaint as misleading although they are not clear about the reason for the company to have lodged it.
