A high-speed Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) proposed between Bengaluru and Mysuru could drastically cut travel times, potentially reducing the current three-hour journey to just under 70 minutes. Modeled on the Namo Bharat RRTS in Delhi, the proposed corridor is being planned by the Bangalore Commuter Rail Corporation Ltd. (BCRCL) in collaboration with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

Designed to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h, the RRTS is expected to provide high-frequency and efficient service for both daily commuters and long-distance travelers. A pre-feasibility study has been completed, and work is currently underway on a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The project may involve a combination of elevated tracks and upgrades to existing rail infrastructure, with estimated costs ranging between ₹25,000 crore and ₹30,000 crore.
The corridor is considered strategically important due to rapid urban expansion, rising commuter demand, and increasing congestion on the current transport network. Towns like Ramanagara and Mandya are likely to witness economic and real estate growth as a result of improved connectivity.
While the proposal holds significant promise, it faces hurdles including land acquisition, multi-agency coordination, and ensuring adequate ridership at sustainable fare levels. Experts emphasize the need for dedicated, grade-separated tracks to ensure uninterrupted high-speed operations.
If realized, the RRTS could redefine intercity travel in Karnataka, making daily commuting and regional transit faster and more accessible for thousands.
