Bengaluru’s Namma Metro has added three new breastfeeding centres at its Banashankari, National College (R V Road), and Bennigannahalli stations, furthering efforts to support mothers traveling with infants. The initiative, backed by the State Bank of India under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in partnership with the Child Help Foundation, aims to enhance commuter comfort and inclusivity.

With these additions, the total number of infant feeding rooms across the metro network has increased, offering improved amenities for nursing mothers. This development follows public outcry sparked by a viral video that showed a woman struggling to breastfeed her baby at Trinity station. In the absence of a designated space, her husband was seen shielding her with his arms, drawing attention to the lack of basic facilities for young families.

The footage ignited widespread concern on social media and amplified calls for better infrastructure in public transport hubs. In response, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had earlier introduced similar facilities at stations including Kengeri, Majestic, Yeshwanthpur, Baiyappanahalli, and Yelachenahalli.

This latest expansion reflects an ongoing commitment to commuter-friendly improvements across the network. By addressing a critical need, the metro system is making strides toward a more accessible and compassionate urban transit environment, particularly for women with infants.
