  • Namma Metro to announce a steep 40-45% fare hike, details tomorrow
  • Discounts likely during non-peak hours and on government holidays
  • First fare revision in 7 years, following BMTC and KSRTC hikes

Namma Metro is poised to announce a significant fare hike, with formal details expected tomorrow. The move, approved at a recent board meeting, marks the first fare revision in seven years. The hike is steep, ranging between 40% and 45%, and aims to address financial sustainability and rising operational costs.

In addition to revealing the exact fare structure, officials will also disclose when the revised fares will come into effect. While the fare increase may impact regular commuters, the Fare Fixation Committee has recommended implementing substantial discounts during non-peak hours and on government holidays to mitigate the burden on passengers.

This development comes shortly after similar fare increases by BMTC and KSRTC, adding to transportation costs for Bengaluru’s residents.

Namma Metro’s last fare revision was implemented in 2018. Since then, operational expenses and the network’s expansion have heightened the need for financial adjustments. However, commuters may feel the pinch of the simultaneous hikes across public transport systems in the city.

The upcoming announcement is expected to detail measures aimed at balancing revenue generation with commuter affordability, particularly for regular passengers who rely heavily on the metro for daily travel. Passengers are advised to stay updated as the new fare structure is rolled out.
