KMF had indicated that a price hike was inevitable after budget session. While the government is preparing for an increase, reports suggest that the rise may be around ₹5 per liter initially.
Farmers Push for Hike
The demand for a price hike stems from persistent pressure from dairy farmers and milk unions. Recently, farmers protested outside KMF offices, urging an increase in procurement prices. Following this, KMF submitted a proposal to the government seeking approval for a ₹10 per liter increase.
KMF President Bhimanaik is set to discuss the matter with CM Siddaramaiah today. The board has already held discussions with milk unions to assess the impact of the hike. If approved, the increase will be implemented immediately.
Previous Hike and Future Outlook
In June last year, KMF had raised milk prices by ₹2 per liter. This time, the proposed hike is significantly higher, sparking concerns among consumers already burdened by rising costs. The final decision is expected after today’s crucial meeting with the Chief Minister.
