The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and Ashraya Hastha Trust (AHT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate a rural mental health initiative titled "NAMAN" in two taluks of India.

The collaboration, announced by the Health and Family Welfare Department in a press release on December 18, involves multiple stakeholders and aims to assess the viability of extending the program nationwide.

As per the released statement, the Naman program is scheduled to be completed within a three-year timeframe. NIMHANS will take the lead in charting the overall implementation plan, with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, serving as a sub-hub to ensure successful execution in Uttarakhand.

Both NIMHANS and AIIMS, in collaboration with the health departments of Karnataka and Uttarakhand governments, will actively participate in the initiative. The financial support required for the program's seamless operation will be provided by the Ashraya Hasta Trust.

The chosen taluks for program implementation are Munsiyari taluk in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, and Belur taluk in Hassan district, Karnataka. This initiative aims to address the mental health needs of the entire population in these two taluks.
