Bengaluru: No vehicles on MG road after 8 PM on New Year; BBMP releases guidelines

With the New Year just 2 weeks away, the mood of festivity is set to prevail in the city of Bengaluru. This also raises the question of preparedness for officials across various government departments. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) along with the Bengaluru Police have prepared guidelines for the day. 

A meeting was held between BBMP officials and the Bengaluru Police officials. The outcome of the meeting is the guidelines. The main focus is to avoid any untoward incident from taking place. The rules would be applicable starting from the night of December 31st. More CCTV cameras would be used than usual. The BBMP and the Bengaluru Police will work in tandem on that day.

The BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath affirmed that the Guidelines have been prepared. The guidelines indicate that celebrations must not go beyond 1 AM on January 1st in restaurants and pubs. Movement of vehicles on M.G Road and Brigade Road have been prohibited after 8 PM. Prominent flyovers across the city would be closed after 10 PM. Namma Metro services would be available until 1 AM on that day. The use of loudspeakers and crackers have been prohibited. Bars are bound to provide parking facilities for the guests. Permission is mandatory for celebrations. Maintaining hygienic standards after the celebration is also the responsibility of the host.
