A series of holidays are lined up ahead of Christmas and New Year. This has resulted in a spike in hotel bookings across the city. A significant amount of the bookings are from Non Residential Indians (NRIs). Foreigners are also choosing Bengaluru as a travel destination. More than 50,000 hotel rooms have been booked for this period. This extends until the New Year.
These figures indicate an occupancy level of close to 80 percent. Other parts of the state have also witnessed a spike in tourists. This has also increased the sale of flight and bus tickets.
Other countries have Christmas holidays for close to a month. The trips are planned on account of the vacation for children. This is also a respite from the severe cold that looms around in these parts of the world at this time. NRIs also look to take care of marriages during their visit. The hotels also have an additional responsibility this time owing to following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) with regard to containment of the Covid-19 JN1 variant. This might also lead to cancellation of travel plans for some.
