According to reports, Sharif had previously worked for Shekshavali, who allegedly overworked him for minimal pay. Frustrated with the harsh working conditions, Sharif left the job and found employment at another shop. Upset by Sharif’s departure and abusing in foul language, Shekshavali invited him back under the pretence of settling outstanding wages.

Upon Sharif’s arrival, Shekshavali allegedly locked the shop’s shutter, attacked Sharif with a cane, and stripped him before filming the assault. The video, which later surfaced, prompted intervention from social activist Lakshmi Narayan Shetty. Shetty, who was informed of the incident, provided the video evidence to the police.

Sharif, fearing retaliation from his employer and reluctant to come forward, initially refrained from reporting the abuse. However, the police, having received the video evidence, forced Sharif to return to Bengaluru. An FIR has been registered at the Subramanyapura police station, and investigations are ongoing.

The case highlights severe issues of workplace harassment and the urgent need for stronger protections for workers.
