Legislator and former Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) K Gopalaiah representing the Mahalakshmi Layout reported to have received death threats from a former corporator Padmaraj from Basaveshwara Nagar. This was discussed in the parliament.
Gopalaiah requested for protection to be provided for his family. On the basis of Speaker U.T Khader’s whip, Padmaraj was arrested. The speaker questioned the delay in the arrest. He gave an ultimatum to the police stating that if Padaraj is not arrested by evening, the inspector of the local branch will face a suspension.
Padmaraj is alleged to have made a call to Gopalaiah at 11 PM on February 13th and demanded money. He supposedly used unparliamentary language and issued a death threat. Gopalaiah filed a complaint in the Kamakshipalya police station. Padamraj reportedly made such threats to other legislators on previous occasions as well.
Padmaraj was taken to the K.C General Hospital for a checkup. He was later produced in front of the 39th CMM Court. He is currently released on bail.
Padmaraj also made allegations against Gopalaiah. He stated that Gopalaiah procured Rs 15 lakh from him under the pretext of ensuring a ticket from the BJP for the state election. He promised to uncover the scam in the coming days.
