A Bengaluru resident shared a troubling experience on Reddit involving a ride-hailing app auto driver who allegedly threatened him over a fare disagreement. The passenger booked a ride from his college to his home, and while the journey was smooth, issues arose at the destination.

The driver demanded ₹338 instead of the ₹256 shown on the passenger’s app, presenting a separate bill with a different fare. Additionally, the passenger noticed that the trip had not yet been marked as completed. When he questioned the discrepancy, the driver refused to show the app again.
As the passenger insisted, the driver allegedly became aggressive, hurled abuses, and even threatened to slap him, particularly for not knowing Kannada. Intimidated, the passenger paid the higher amount. However, he later discovered that the driver ended the trip 30 minutes later, 2.4 km away from the actual drop location, raising concerns about fare manipulation. Fearful of retaliation, the passenger hesitated to file a complaint.
The Reddit post sparked strong reactions, with users discussing safety precautions while using ride-hailing services. Some advised passengers to avoid direct fare disputes and instead file complaints afterward. Others suggested not getting dropped off directly at home to prevent drivers from knowing their exact location.
One user shared a harrowing experience where a driver repeatedly called and issued threats for two days after discovering their residence. The incident highlighted growing concerns over passenger safety and the need for stricter accountability in ride-hailing services.
