On the occasion of the World Mental Health Day, the Bengaluru Police chose to highlight an important issue with regard to mental health which is suicide prevention. They dispelled common myths associated with this phenomenon. The first among these is the myth that those who commit suicide are plagued by mental health issues whereas the reality is that on most occasions, suicide victims are not previously diagnosed by any mental health condition.
Another myth is that most suicides happen suddenly but in reality there are signs that can be taken note of in order to respond more effectively in such scenarios.
Suicidal people are also accused of showing behaviour for the sake of attention but it is important to note that they are affected by genuine amounts of stress and looking for channel to voice out these feelings. This should not be mistaken with craving attention.
On October 8th, the Bengaluru police prevented a suicide from taking place in a lodge in Majestic after having received a call from the victim’s friend informing them of the same.
