Five youths, including two with a history of delinquency, were apprehended for the vandalism of 18 parked vehicles that occurred in the early hours of November 10 in Rajagopalnagar.
Clad in helmets and riding a motorcycle, the perpetrators targeted 14 cars, two mini-trucks, an autorickshaw, and a motorcycle, expressing a desire for notoriety in the locality.
Initial investigations indicated the involvement of two helmeted individuals, leading the police to believe that 2-4 individuals were responsible. However, further inquiry revealed that all five offenders took turns arriving on the same motorcycle. They utilized iron rods to shatter car windows and inflict damage on other vehicles.
Owners of the vandalized vehicles filed three police complaints. The suspects, identified as Manikanta alias Kalla Mani, Somashekhar alias Kulla Soma, Nitin Daniel, Lokesh Kumar, and Kartik, all in their twenties and residents of Laggere, have a criminal record.
Manikanta and Somashekhar had previously faced charges related to burglaries in different areas of the city and in Kunigal, Tumakuru district. The remaining three are their accomplices, according to the police.
The accused have been charged under the Arms Act and IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace).
