  • Kumbalgodu, Avalahalli, and Hebbagodi rural police stations seek inclusion
  • Move driven by rising population density and evolving crime patterns

A proposal is under consideration to integrate three rural police stations—Kumbalgodu in Ramanagara district, Avalahalli, and Hebbagodi in Bengaluru Rural district—into the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate. These areas have seen rapid urbanisation, altering the nature of crimes reported. Additionally, urbanised sections of Madanayakanahalli and Vishwanathapura in Bengaluru Rural district may also be merged with adjacent city police stations.

This move follows the recent transfer of Talaghattapura and Byadarahalli police stations from Ramanagara district to the city. The expansion aligns with the State Budget announcement to increase the number of police divisions in Bengaluru from eight to eleven. Authorities anticipate the government’s approval for the restructuring.

The shift is driven by rising population density and evolving crime patterns. Real estate-related disputes and cases of narcotics and cybercrime have also grown, posing challenges for rural police stations, which operate with limited resources.

Meanwhile, there is growing demand to incorporate additional police stations—such as Vijayapura, Rajanukunte, Bannerghatta, Jigani, Surya City, and Sarjapura—into the city jurisdiction. Some of these areas are also set to be included in Bengaluru’s civic limits under the proposed Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, 2024. However, no formal proposal has been submitted regarding their inclusion as of now.
