In a major traffic enforcement operation on Monday morning, the Bengaluru Traffic Police launched a citywide crackdown on drunk driving among school vehicle operators. The surprise drive, conducted between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM, saw checks carried out on 4,559 school vehicle drivers across various locations in the city.

The inspection revealed that 58 drivers were operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol. These individuals were immediately booked under the Indian Motor Vehicles Act for endangering the lives of schoolchildren. As a deterrent measure, their vehicles were seized on the spot, and authorities recommended cancellation of the corresponding permits to the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). Additionally, the offenders’ driving licences have been forwarded to the RTOs for suspension.
This large-scale operation follows growing concerns over student safety, with parents and schools increasingly reporting reckless driving and other traffic violations by school transport operators. In response, the Bengaluru Police have intensified their monitoring and initiated strict actions against those flouting traffic norms.
Authorities have confirmed that such enforcement drives will be carried out regularly to ensure the safety of children during their commute. The traffic police have reiterated their commitment to stringent rule enforcement and warned of further disciplinary action against violators.
This initiative underscores the city's broader efforts to reinforce traffic discipline and safeguard school-going children from potential dangers posed by negligent drivers.
