In a massive crackdown on drug peddling and consumption in July, Bengaluru Police have registered 21 drug peddling and 32 drug consumption cases near educational institutions.

Police have arrested over 487 in cases related to drug peddling and consumption in the city and they have also seized drugs worth Rs 18 crore in July month alone.

378 cases of illegal substance abuse have been registered by Bengaluru Police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and confiscated about 1,785kg of drugs.

Bengaluru City Commissioner B Dayananda addressed media persons on July 31 and said police has launched a campaign against drugs and this campaign will be implemented aggressively across Bengaluru, particularly at educational institutions.

Of the total 484 Indians arrested by Bengaluru Police in cases related to drug peddling and consumption, 13 are foreigners. 72 cases have been registered against drug peddlers and 306 cases against drug consumers by Bengaluru Police. Police also deported 11 foreigners who were residing in the city even after the expiration of their visas.

Police also registered 24 cases against individuals, who sold tobacco products within a 100-metre limits of educational institutions, under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA).

Around Rs 6 lakh has been collected by Bengaluru Police as fines from individuals for various offences related to tobacco by registering over 3,588 petty cases.

Drugs seized by Bengaluru Police

Police seized 3.19 kg of MDMA, 1,723 kg of ganja, 55.8 kg of opium, 40 grams of heroin, 467 grams of charas, 1.02 kg of hashish oil, 570 grams of cocaine, 43 LSD strips and over 572 different types of tablets.
