3 Police informants have been arrested on charges of extortion and kidnapping. Rakesh C Sebanavar (26) of Yeshwanthpur, Arun Kumar R (27) of Vidyaranyapura and R Lokesh Kumar (20) of Magadi Road extorted 1.8 Lakhs from 2 students residing in the hostel premise of a college in Sadashivnagar and also seized their Royal Enfield motorcycle and car. They posed as cops and informed them that they were conducting investigations pertaining to a narcotics distribution case. The 3 individuals worked as police informants and helped the police arrest peddlers and users for quite some years. They obtained information about the students through their contacts within the drug trafficking circuits. One of the victims was a nursing student and the other was a physiotherapy student. The 3 informants drove around Yelahanka with the nursing student until 1.7 Lakhs were transferred to their account by the physiotherapist student. He later filed a police complaint later on saying that they were threatened of having drug trafficking charges levied upon them by the trio. The police have recovered 4 mobile phones, a car and a bike from the trio who also happened to be close friends. All 3 of the accused were supposedly without employment at the time of their arrest.
