Bengaluru’s city police have partnered with the Karnataka Federation of Women Lawyers to provide legal assistance to women and children in distress. The initiative, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday, enhances ongoing efforts to support vulnerable individuals facing legal challenges.

Many women, particularly from economically weaker backgrounds, struggle to access legal guidance, leaving them without proper representation in cases of marital disputes, property conflicts, and other legal matters.

Under the initiative, pro bono legal services will be offered at designated police stations across the city. Currently, eight police stations have two counsellors each to assist women in distress. When counselling fails to resolve disputes, cases will be referred to legal experts for further intervention. Four police stations will be supported by the Rotary Club, while the remaining four will be managed by the Karnataka Federation of Women Lawyers. Advocates will be available at specified times, allowing those in need to seek direct legal guidance.

The initiative also aims to expand support beyond women’s issues, extending legal aid to victims of serious crimes such as murder, rape, and POCSO cases. By ensuring accessible legal representation, the program strengthens protection and empowerment for all victims navigating the legal system.
