  • Car and electric pole were severely damaged
  • Pourakarmika worker was cleaning the street
  • Residents had earlier alerted BBMP officials of the dangers

Bengaluru has been faced with a crisis of falling trees. NewsFirst had urged officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take note of this through several reports. The negligence from BBMP officials however continues to be a cause for distress for the citizens of Bengaluru. A Pourakarmika worker avoided a major mishap by the barest of margins.

Visuals of a tree falling onto the road have emerged from a CCTV camera in the Saraswathi Nagar region of the Govindarajanagar area of Bengaluru.  A car and an electric pole were severely damaged as a result of this. A building under construction has also been affected. The Pourakarmika worker was cleaning the street of the dust that had accumulated when the incident took place. Her presence of mind ensured that she did not suffer any major injuries.

Residents had alerted BBMP officials of the dangers posed by trees that could potentially be uprooted. A complaint had also been filed in this regard. The risk is of a higher proportion during heavy rains. However, no action was taken. 10 such incidents have been reported from across the city in the recent past. A survey to identify trees and branches that could potentially come off should be a priority for the BBMP.
