With the onset of summer, water shortage has been a prominent problem across Bengaluru. The Prakruthi Township of the Horamavu Ward has been faced with a problem due to unavailability of the Cauvery water as well as the borewell water. The ward consists of 3 blocks with more than 12,000 people residing in the same.
There were 11 borewells in place but none of them are apparently functional at the moment. The rates for the tankers in the region is said to have increased from Rs 500 to Rs 600 in the past to Rs 1600 to Rs 2000 presently. “For the last 6-8 months we have not been receiving water. We would earlier rely on the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) borewells. Now a group of 4-5 people are ensuring that the water is being released only to a select few with whom they have a prior understanding. We have informed the BBMP Commissioner who has asserted that the water supply must be taken over by the BBMP. This applies to the borewell water as well as the watermen. We have paid all our bills to theBangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), however they only have metres in place with no water available,” a user disclosed in an interaction with NewsFirst.
