Fair to showcase artworks from 1,500 artists from 22 states

Fair received applications from 2,276 artists, with 51% hailing from Karnataka

The 21st edition of the Chitra Santhe art fair in Bengaluru is set to showcase diverse artworks from over 1,500 artists representing 22 states. Scheduled for January 7, this one-day mega event, organized by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (KCP), will feature a broad spectrum of artistic expressions, ranging from traditional Mysuru and Tanjore paintings to Rajasthani and Madhubani styles, as well as modern and contemporary pieces.

The KCP President, B L Shankar, reportedly highlighted the inclusive nature of the fair, receiving applications from 2,276 artists, with 51% hailing from Karnataka alone. Notably, 7.6% of applications were from specially-abled artists, and 6% from senior citizens, all of whom were accepted.

The KCP campus on Kumara Krupa Road and Crescent Road will host art stalls, with an additional 300 on Seva Dal ground and service roads under the Shivananda Circle steel flyover. A dedicated zone for specially-abled and senior citizen artists will be established, accommodating 150 artists in each additional venue.

Celebrating the achievements of Indian scientists in space research, the fair will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Anticipating five lakh visitors, the KCP plans to address parking concerns by arranging BMTC metro feeder buses and promoting the Namma Yatri auto-rickshaw app with 30 women-driven auto-rickshaws for artists and visitors.

The event serves as a non-commission platform for artists to showcase and sell their works, with free accommodation provided for 400 artists from other states.
