As he walked home, an autorickshaw approached him, moving against the flow of traffic. The driver and a passenger, both of whom appeared aggressive, made provoking comments to Varun. Disturbed by their behavior, Varun attempted to walk away, but the duo followed him on foot.

The men caught up with him, shouting and threatening him, before ordering him to get into the autorickshaw. When Varun refused, one of the attackers dragged him and punched him repeatedly, causing severe facial injuries. The attackers then forced Varun to unlock his phone and transferred ₹24,000 through payment apps using a QR code.

Despite being bleeding and in pain, Varun tried to seek help from passersby, but the attackers threatened him with death if he resisted or called for assistance. They then returned his phone and fled the scene.

Varun later managed to contact his father, who took him to a private hospital where he underwent surgery for facial fractures. While his injuries are serious, he is not at risk of losing his vision.
