A water tank in a 4 storey building collapsed and fell on the pushcart. 40-year-old Arul, who was the pushcart vendor, 32-year-old Kota Nageshwarr Rao and 32-year-old Karan Thapa were hit by the water tank. They were buried inside the wreckage. The incident happened near the Shivajinagar bus stand.
The incident took place late at night. There were some passers-by who with the help of the local police ensured that the victims were brought out of the ruins and taken to the hospital. However 2 of them were declared dead upon arrival. The third person was shifted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). He too succumbed to his injuries a while later.
The police along with officials from the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) surveyed the spot where the accident occurred. They wanted to assess if there was any negligence on the part of the house owner. A chargesheet has also been filed against him for death due to negligence.
