According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused, Xavier Issac, Vishnu, and Sharath, had previously asked Goutham to shave his facial hair when he joined the college in April. Goutham’s refusal reportedly led the seniors to form a group with the intention of intimidating him.
The situation escalated on Friday when the accused allegedly took Goutham to a church in Hadosiddapura. There, they demanded once again that he shave his beard. When Goutham refused, the situation turned violent, resulting in him being assaulted and suffering a fractured shoulder. He has since undergone surgery for his injuries.
In addition to the physical assault, the victim’s family was allegedly threatened by the accused while Goutham was recovering in the hospital. A complaint has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to causing grievous hurt, wrongful restraint, unlawful assembly, rioting, and criminal intimidation.
