Torrential rains battered Bengaluru for over six hours on Sunday night into Monday, leading to tragic consequences as three people lost their lives in rain-related incidents. This marks the city’s most intense spell of rain so far this year, causing widespread waterlogging and infrastructure damage.

Two of the fatalities occurred in BTM Layout around 6 PM on Monday. Manmohan Kamath, 63, a resident, and Dinesh, a 12-year-old boy, were electrocuted while trying to clear rainwater from their apartment premises using an electric pump. Dinesh was the son of Bharat, a Nepali worker employed at the complex. The duo reportedly stepped into the waterlogged basement without realizing it had become electrically charged.

Earlier in the day, a 35-year-old housekeeper died when a compound wall collapsed due to waterlogging and poor drainage. The woman was identified as an employee at a nearby residential property.

The downpour caused severe disruptions across the city, with flooded roads, submerged basements, and traffic paralysis in multiple neighborhoods. Emergency crews were deployed to clear blocked drains and assist stranded residents, but the sheer volume of rainfall overwhelmed the city’s drainage system.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid flooded areas and use extreme caution when handling electrical equipment during storms. Investigations are underway into the safety lapses that led to the electrocutions.
