The ongoing spell of rain in Bengaluru continues to disrupt daily life, with two alarming incidents of massive tree falls reported this morning. Both events occurred in residential areas, highlighting the increasing danger posed by unstable trees during the pre-monsoon rains.
The first incident took place around 8:30 AM near Chamarajpet Maidan, where a large tree came crashing down onto a JCB (earthmover) parked nearby. The sudden collapse caused panic among local workers and residents, though fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The tree was weakened by the rain and gave way even after a relatively short bout of rainfall.
In a separate but equally dangerous event, another huge tree uprooted and fell on a parked car on 80 Feet Road in Girinagar. The car, which had been parked just half an hour earlier, was completely damaged in the incident. The owner narrowly escaped, having left the location moments before the tree came down.
Both incidents have once again exposed the fragile urban infrastructure and the lack of preventive maintenance of old trees across the city. BBMP officials were alerted and began clearing operations at both sites. However, residents are now raising serious concerns about the safety of lives and property during the rainy season.
As rainfall is expected to continue, citizens are urged to avoid parking vehicles under large trees and report unstable trees to civic authorities.
