With the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans having been abandoned, three spots for three playoffs have been booked in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). For all practical purposes, the contention for the fourth spot is between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). RCB would be required to chase the target set by CSK within 18.1 overs or win the game by 18 runs in order to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, predictions of rain on 18th May have kept fans on the edge.
The Central Business Districts (CBD) where the Chinnaswamy Stadium is located are expected to receive thunderstorms along with rain in the evening when the match is scheduled. However other predictions also indicate that the rain would taper down around 7 PM when the match is scheduled to commence. The predictions always have an element of uncertainty in them. The true picture will become clear only within hours of the commencement of the game.

It should also be kept in mind that the drainage system in Chinnaswamy Stadium has been upgraded which also opens up the possibility of a result with reduced overs. However the equation for qualification will likely get impacted by such a change.
