Bengaluru: Renowned director Manso Re faces allegations of dowry harassment from wife

Renowned Sandalwood director Manso Re who has won the National Award is facing a charge of harassment. Known for making movies with strong women characters and a message of empowerment, it is ironic that Manso Re is facing charges of Harassment. Manso Re has earned recognition for films such as Harivu, Nathicharamai and Act 1978. 

His wife Akhila has charged him with harassment over demand for dowry. She alleged that the money was asked for making films. Manso Re has also filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Akhila in the Subramanyapura Police Station in Bengaluru. Mansore Re’s mother Venkatalakshmi and sister Hemalatha have also been named in Akhila’s complaint. 

In August 2021, Manjunath Somashekar Reddy and Akhiila had gotten married after falling in love. They lived together for 2 years. Akhila claims that Rs 30 lakh were spent on their marriage. She reported to the police that despite this, Manso Re demanded more money in order to produce films. 

Manso Re has levied Akhila with charges of blackmailing. He claimed that she attacked him and attempted suicide. He further claimed that she has conspired with other members of her family on a false premise. Investigations on these charges are underway.
