A Bengaluru resident shared an alarming experience of being scammed by a ride-hailing driver (referred to as "captain") on Monday night. The passenger, after booking a ride through Rapido, was asked by the driver to pay Rs 170 directly to his account, claiming he was "out of recharge" to accept the ride. Trusting the captain’s explanation, the passenger made the payment, only to be left stranded as the driver drove off without picking them up.

The frustrated passenger took to Reddit to warn others about this new scam, admitting that paying before the ride was a mistake but highlighting that the driver should face consequences.
Fortunately, the issue was resolved when Rapido’s customer care stepped in. The company refunded the Rs 170 to the passenger's wallet, and the driver later claimed he was unaware that he was supposed to pick up the customer.
In the comments section, some Reddit users criticized the passenger for not ensuring the ride was confirmed before making the payment, pointing out the importance of caution when dealing with such requests. Others felt it was a clear case of being scammed, emphasizing the need for vigilance when using ride-hailing services.
Rapido’s prompt response and refund helped address the issue, but the incident highlights the risks associated with making payments before confirming services.
