Bengaluru's Thanisandra area is set to witness a major railway infrastructure upgrade, with Indian Railways approving a Rs 270 crore Vande Bharat sleeper coach depot and workshop near the Thanisandra railway station. This state-of-the-art facility will be developed by the South Western Railway’s Bengaluru Division and is expected to be operational by early 2026.

The upcoming yard will be crucial for servicing and maintaining the Vande Bharat sleeper variants. Out of the initial 16 coaches, 10 are being jointly produced by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and BEML in Bengaluru. With six Vande Bharat chair car services already running from the city, the depot will help enhance overnight travel options through these premium trains.
In parallel, Indian Railways has also initiated plans for two new terminals, one near Devanahalli (between Bullahalli and Hosuru) and another in Nelamangala, following the cancellation of earlier Whitefield terminal proposals due to space constraints.
There is also renewed public demand to reopen the long-shut Thanisandra station, located near Manyata Tech Park. This station is likely to become a significant part of the city’s upcoming Suburban Rail Corridor-4.
