In a significant enforcement drive, Bengaluru’s Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have intensified their crackdown on unauthorized school transport, registering 231 cases against vehicle owners and drivers. The operation led to the seizure of 65 vehicles for violating transport regulations, as authorities aim to enhance student safety.

The drive specifically targeted vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, failing to meet Supreme Court-mandated safety norms, evading taxes, and engaging in other infractions. Transport department officials stressed that strict enforcement is essential to curb unsafe transportation and protect schoolchildren.

To ensure compliance, 10 inspection teams were deployed across the city, examining over 500 school buses and vans. The inspections uncovered multiple violations, including unqualified drivers, overcrowding, and a lack of mandatory safety measures such as GPS tracking and speed governors.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to student safety and warned of continued inspections in the coming weeks. Officials have urged parents and schools to verify the credentials of transport providers before hiring their services.

The transport department has also advised vehicle operators to adhere to all legal requirements, emphasizing that those found violating regulations will face stringent penalties, including vehicle seizure and legal action.

With Bengaluru’s rising school transport demand, authorities aim to sustain rigorous monitoring efforts, ensuring that only licensed and properly maintained vehicles operate, thereby reducing risks for students traveling to and from school.
