The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has recorded a notable success with its Sanchari Cauvery initiative, generating a revenue of Rs 13.89 lakh within the first month of its launch. The scheme, introduced on May 9, 2025, aims to provide Cauvery river water to city residents through private tankers on a demand-based booking model.

Between May 9 and June 11, BWSSB supplied a total of 1.03 crore litres of treated Cauvery water across Bengaluru through 1,532 tanker trips. This initiative has received positive responses across all four zones of the city, South, North, East, and West, with the northern zone recording the highest consumption of around 10 lakh litres. The western and southern zones followed with 5 lakh litres and 3.48 lakh litres respectively.
Over 250 private tankers have been deployed under the project. Water pricing has been structured based on quantity, with 6,000 litres priced at Rs 740 and 12,000 litres costing Rs 1,370. Customers can conveniently book water tankers via a dedicated mobile app and website, enabling door-to-door supply for households and small businesses facing water shortages.
To support the project, BWSSB has established 55 Cauvery Connect Centers across the city, where tankers are filled before distribution. These hubs ensure efficient loading and timely delivery of water, reducing dependency on borewells and addressing acute summer shortages in many neighborhoods.
