Bengaluru: Scamsters are targeting senior citizens by arranging video calls with woman who undresses herself

    Targets receive a call from the supposed ACP of Pune Arun

    Rs 40 lakh is demanded in order to secure the person from an imminent arrest

The menace of cyber crimes has been plaguing Bengaluru. Presently, a modus operandi targeting senior citizens has come to the forefront. 

The scamsters claim to represent police from North India. 63-year-old Dattatreya Bhatt filed a complaint in this regard in the Girinagar Police Station. 

The scamsters first arrange for a video call featuring a woman. The woman undresses herself and asks the target to do so as well. A few hours later another call is made wherein the woman alleges that the call was screen recorded by the target and she would hence approach the police.

A few hours later, the targets receive a call from a person claiming to be Vikram Rahod, the ACP of the Cyber Crime Cell of the Delhi Police. The person claims that a complaint has been registered against the individual for screen recording a call and that he would save the man provided he pay Rs 50,000 to him. 

A day later, the targets receive another call from the supposed ACP of Pune Arun. The target is informed that the woman has committed suicide and that they would need his contact details. Rs 40 lakh is demanded in order to secure the person from an imminent arrest . An advance sum of Rs 1 lakh is collected. Upon repeatedly receiving calls in a similar case, Dattatreya filed a complaint in the Girinagar Police Station.
