The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) which is a high tech hospital is a super speciality hospital that is well equipped to deal with neurological and brain-related issues, is visited by patients across India. However at times, there’s a shortage of staff or number of beds to treat patients. This has also occasionally resulted in death.

In this regard, the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services of the Government of Karnataka has provided a positive update. A second unit of the high-tech speciality hospital will be constructed in North Bengaluru. This demand was earlier placed in front of the central government. The demand has now received an approval. A 40-acre property in the Kyalasanahalli region near Kothanur will be the site wherein the hospital will be constructed. "NIMHANS second unit is set to come up in north Bengaluru. As the vice-president of the NIMHANS board, I had requested Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who is the president, to consider granting a second NIMHANS to Bengaluru during the previous meeting, and he has shown a positive sign. For this purpose, the State Government will be providing 40 acres of land,” Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil said.
