On July 5, Bengaluru will make history by hosting India’s first international javelin competition, the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, at the iconic Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Organised in partnership with JSW Sports, this landmark event marks a significant stride in promoting track and field athletics in the country.

The competition will see participation from 12 elite javelin throwers from around the globe, including Olympic medalists and World Champions. Noteworthy names include Thomas Röhler (Germany), Julius Yego (Kenya), and Curtis Thompson (USA). Representing India will be top talents like Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, Sachin Yadav, Sahil Silwal, and Yashvir Singh.
Neeraj Chopra, India’s first Olympic gold medalist in athletics and the reigning World Champion and Diamond League winner, is spearheading the initiative. His influence continues to set new benchmarks in Indian sports.
The event drew brief controversy over an invitation extended to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. Neeraj clarified that the invitation was sent before the May 24 Pahalgam terror attack, and it was purely a gesture of athlete-to-athlete camaraderie. Nadeem has since declined, citing preparation for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships.
Aimed at strengthening India’s athletics ecosystem, the event provides local athletes an opportunity to compete with world-class talent on home soil. It is also expected to motivate younger generations to take up track and field.
Fans can purchase tickets through platforms like District by Zomato, and the event will be televised on Star Sports and streamed on JioCinema.
