Bengaluru shaken by badminton coach rape scandal

The city's reputation as the 'Silicon Valley of India' has been marred by another shocking incident of sexual assault, this time involving a minor. Under the jurisdiction of the Hulimavu police station, a 16-year-old girl has allegedly been raped by her badminton coach, identified as Suresh Balaji, who hails from Tamil Nadu.

The heinous act came to light after the victim's parents filed a formal complaint with the police. Balaji reportedly exploited his position of trust, using the guise of coaching to perpetrate the crime. Following his arrest, a subsequent check of his mobile phone revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse, indicating that he had allegedly sexually abused several other minor girls at a sports training center.

The Hulimavu police have swiftly taken the accused into custody for a period of eight days to facilitate a thorough investigation. Furthermore, authorities have recorded the statements of the other minor victims who were identified through the evidence found on Balaji's phone. This development suggests the scale of the abuse may be far wider than initially reported, sending shockwaves through the local community.
