Noted playback singer Sonu Nigam is under fire for allegedly ignoring High Court directions in connection with a case involving an insult to the Kannadigas. The controversy, which erupted over a month ago, continues to simmer as the singer has reportedly failed to cooperate with police investigations despite repeated reminders.

The Karnataka High Court, taking the matter seriously, had earlier instructed that no coercive action be taken against Sonu Nigam but had clearly advised him to cooperate and provide a formal statement. However, sources in the Avalahalli Police Station say that their repeated efforts to reach the singer have been unsuccessful.
According to police officials, the High Court had allowed them to visit Sonu Nigam in person to record his statement if he failed to appear voluntarily. Despite this, the singer is said to have avoided confirming any date or time for the meeting, allegedly citing scheduling issues. This continued non-cooperation has frustrated investigators.
Officers handling the case are now planning to wait for two more days before escalating the matter. If the singer still doesn’t respond, the police plan to bring the issue to the court’s attention, questioning whether the artist is showing disregard for judicial instructions.
Public sentiment in Karnataka remains sensitive, with several Kannada organisations earlier demanding an apology from the singer for his alleged derogatory remarks. The prolonged silence and perceived evasion by Sonu Nigam have only added fuel to the fire.
