The Karnataka Governor, Thawar Chand Gehlot, unveiled a special stamp at the Raman Research Institute(RRI), marking the prestigious institution’s platinum jubilee.

In his address, he lauded the RRI’s contributions and paid homage to the renowned physicist Sir CV Raman, highlighting his global recognition, including the Nobel Prize and the Lenin Peace Prize.

Crafted by artist Avijit Dutta, the Rs 5 denomination stamp showcases a striking portrayal of Sir CV Raman against the backdrop of the institute’s iconic edifice.

The Governor hailed the institute’s pioneering work in quantum physics and other groundbreaking disciplines, emphasizing its transformative impact as a “game changer” poised to propel India’s advancement in the years ahead.

Joining the momentous occasion were notable dignitaries such as A S Kiran Kumar, chairperson of the RRI Governing Council, esteemed former ISRO chairman Dr K Kasturirangan, K Prakash, Chief Postmaster General of Karnataka, and Professor Tarun Souradeep, Director of the Raman Research Institute.

This stamp release stands as the latest highlight in a series of events and conferences commemorating the RRI’s platinum jubilee, following the previous issuance of a stamp to honor Sir CV Raman on his first death anniversary in 1971.
