The Karnataka Government has presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Sri Japananda Maharaj Swamiji of the Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama. Sri Japananda Maharaj Swamiji’s lives by the motto of “Service is god and a process of meditation; sacrifice is asceticism.”
He was born in 1958 and his choice of a life of sainthood is interesting. He has opened several cow sheds. He has also constructed houses for those residing in camps. He was a founder of the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama which was aimed to aid in his efforts to dedicate his life for the service of people. He was a follower of Swami Vivekananda. Delivery of fodder during summer, relief during natural disasters, opening of drinking water facilities and humanitarian assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic are some of the tasks that helped him gain recognition. The Chief Minister presented to him the Bhagwan Mahaveer Shanti Rashtriya Award.
In an event held in the Ravindra Kala Kshetra, 75 people were presented with awards including Japananda Swamiji. Rs 10 lakh which was granted along with the award would be used for the development of government schools. Japananda Swamiji made an announcement to this effect. “I have consistently worked for 35 years, I would like to thank the government for the award,” Japananda Swamiji said.
