A day that was meant to celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore’s long-awaited IPL victory ended in heartbreak, as a massive stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed the lives of at least 10 people, including 14-year-old Divyanshi, and left several others injured.

Thousands of fans gathered to welcome RCB players at the felicitation event held at the stadium. However, the crowd quickly grew beyond control. According to sources, the police were overwhelmed and unable to manage the influx of people, many of whom arrived without valid passes.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara held emergency discussions late Tuesday evening, reviewing lapses in crowd control and event planning. Opposition leaders, including BJP state president Vijayendra, visited hospitals where the injured were being treated and called for accountability.
Of the injured, 27 were hospitalized — 19 at Bowring Hospital and 8 at Vydehi. Tragically, six died at Bowring and four at Vydehi. Several victims remain in critical condition.
Questions are now being raised over how such a high-profile public event was allowed to take place on short notice without adequate preparation or coordination with traffic and law enforcement authorities.
What was meant to be a jubilant moment in Bengaluru's sporting history has turned into a somber reflection on administrative failure and public safety.
