What was meant to be a moment of joy turned into a tragedy during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) victory celebration in Bengaluru. Among the victims of the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium was 26-year-old Akshata from Siddapur in Uttara Kannada district.

Akshata and her husband Ashay had married just a year ago and were living in Bengaluru’s Kammanahalli. Ashay worked as a software engineer in a private firm, while Akshata was employed as a Chartered Accountant. The couple had arrived at the stadium to witness the grand RCB victory celebration after the team clinched their maiden IPL trophy against Punjab.
However, the massive crowd that had gathered at the venue led to severe overcrowding and a stampede. Akshata lost her life in the chaos—tragically, right in front of her husband.
Her body was later taken to Bowring Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. Following the completion of formalities, her remains were handed over to the family. Akshata’s final rites will be held in her hometown of Siddapur.
The incident has sparked widespread sorrow and raised serious concerns about crowd control and event management. What should have been a historic and happy day for fans ended in heartbreak for many, including Akshata’s grieving family and husband.
