Event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd and IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the FIR registered against them in connection with the tragic stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed eleven lives.

In their plea, the organisers alleged that the incident was a direct result of inadequate crowd management by the state police. DNA Entertainment argued that a large portion of the police force had been deployed near Vidhana Soudha for another event, leaving the stadium critically understaffed.

The company claimed it had requested permission for an open-bus victory parade on June 3, which was denied. Instead, the state chose a Vidhana Soudha celebration, drawing away crucial police resources. DNA stated it had arranged for 584 private staff and 2,450 food packets for police but said only 600 were received due to the sparse police presence at the venue.

The petition further alleged that police opened the gates too late, around 3:30 pm, despite visible crowd build-up. A subsequent lathi-charge, they claim, caused panic, leading to the fatal stampede.

Calling the FIR politically motivated, the company said it is being scapegoated to deflect from government failures. The High Court is scheduled to hear the matter today at 2:30 pm before Justice Krishna Kumar.
