A 27-year-old software engineer, K.E. Moorthy, originally from Shivamogga, has been arrested by Magadi Road Police for his involvement in a series of house burglaries across Bengaluru. Once employed at a private tech firm in the city and earning a handsome salary, Moorthy fell into a betting app addiction that ultimately led him down a path of crime.

According to police sources, Moorthy lost over ₹50 lakh on various betting apps, leading to severe financial distress and depression. In a desperate attempt to recover the money, he turned to house thefts. He reportedly even forced his father to sell ancestral property in Shivamogga to repay debts. His family had moved to Bengaluru hoping for a better life, unaware of his criminal descent.
Moorthy is accused in multiple house theft cases registered in Konanakunte, Suggatta Palya, and Avalahalli police stations. He also snatched a gold chain from a woman visiting Angala Parameshwari Temple. Police have recovered 245 grams of gold jewellery worth ₹25 lakh from him. Investigations are ongoing, and more cases may surface as police continue their probe.
